Marko Savković is a Senior Advisor in ISAC Fund, with 20 years of experience in civil society and development aid. His primary research interests concern the complex landscape of Serbia’s European integration process and “European (EU membership) perspective”, regional relations, and foreign policy. In a wider sense, he is interested in issues arising at the crossroads between security, development and democracy and looks at how societies adapt to challenges posed by globalization and modernization. Marko’s last assignments were with UNDP Serbia and Office of the Prime Minister, where he was part of a team of advisers tasked with developing a new government portfolio on depopulation. Then he managed political party program with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy in Serbia. As Executive Director at the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence (BFPE), he was tasked with day-to-day management of the organization’s activities. In this role from 2015 to 2021 he directed the program of the Belgrade Security Forum initiative, South East Europe’s premier security conference. He also directed another of the BFPE’s flagship initiatives – the Regional Academy for Democracy – from 2013 to 2015. Over the period of several years, Marko was part of a team of researchers helped transform the Centre for Civil-Military Relations into Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP), becoming Serbia’s leading, paradigm-setting think-tank in the field of security sector reform and security studies in general. While at BCSP, he co-authored the first “Dictionary of European Security” published in BHS languages, followed by a pioneering study in Serbia’s and Western Balkans’ civilian capacities for peace operations. He obtained his PhD in 2016 at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Political Science, with thesis written on what he understands as privatization of peace-building efforts worldwide. He is a regular contributor to Novi Magazin weekly, writing for numerous other outlets as well.Marko is an alumnus of the Belgrade Open School (10th generation) and Bucerius-Die Zeit Foundation Summer School on Global Governance (2016). Finally, he was a member of the Program Council of the National Academy for Public Administration (NAPA).
